Mio caro Adone, KV 180/173c by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is a set of 6 variations composed for piano, on a theme Mio caro Adone (my dear Adonis) from three-act opera buffa La fiera di Venezia by Antonio Salieri.
Arranged by Napoléon Coste in his album Livre d’Or du Guitariste, op. 52 as No. 27, originally for the Héptacorde, 7-string early romantic guitar. I’ve slightly adjusted the arrangement to make it playable on a 6-string guitar.
Played on an authentic early romantic period guitar made by Johann Georg Stauffer (1778 – 1853) in Vienna.
I do not own this instrument, but am glad I had the chance to have it borrowed for some time. Primarily, it was meant to be measured and examined by my colleague luthier Martin Okenica who builds new instruments in style of Lacote, Stauffer and other masters of 19th century, to gain some inspiration from. But I couldn’t return it without doing some recordings for you 🙂
